Let me say this first, I liked the backstory (in spite of my opinion that it had a few blanks and unreasonable parts) and I really liked Kieran (at least most of the time) ... but I neither liked Jaxon nor their love story. Why? Because for me it often seemed really unrealistic.

But, let's start at the beginnig. Kieran is one of the most popular colummnists at gloss. He has time problems with the deadline, so he decides to write a colummn about some letters of his readers. In the mountain of letters he finds a wedding invitation for one of his coworkers, Alexa (she's really sweet, just so you know...). But she doesn't want to go. Now, why is that? Well, that's the fourth wedding invitation she received from Danetta and the girl still isn't married. She has a reputation (consisting of 3 grooms) for letting her intended husbands stand at the altar, while she disappears... Mysterious, right? Why would somebody still want to marry her? Kieran wants to find out the secret, so he travels to the small city in Texas where the wedding is ought to take place.

While meeting up with Danetta, he also comes in contact with Jaxon and it's lust on the first look. Nothing wrong with that. But. As soon as Jaxon meets Kieran, he suddenly realizes that some things Danetta does annoy him. "That might have been a good realization before you decided that you want to marry her.", that was my thought in that moment. But, it's much more complicated than that and there are reasons why he would marry Danetta even though she might not be perfect for him.

But. Just a few hours after meeting Jaxon (and he was almost blinded by his beauty), Kieran almost starts to draw hearts around Jaxon's name. This seems to be the behaviour of a lovesick teenager, and not of a grown man, however it was sweet. But Jaxon's sudden interest in kissing men, was ... sudden. All in all, Jaxon was very undecisive and naive. Kieran's personality was overall much more interesting.

But. Their love was kind of an insta-love/-lust and I couldn't feel their struggle. The sex scene was also rather anticlimatic, I had hoped to get more feelings there. Even the twist at the end, where I totally liked the portrayal of the characters, was destroyed by their behavior afterwards. In my eyes it just wasn't realistic.

Of course, there were also the grooms. Well, they are totally friendly with Danetta and wish her and Jaxon the best. We are given a reason here that's for the most part plausible, but it seems that they never talked to each other about it, even when they knew more about it. I didn't quite understand why... And although I partly felt for Danetta, I couldn't bring myself to like her at all.

So, it's a sweet story, that had a great story idea. Although I had many things I criticized, I found myself enjoying the book when I overlooked the parts that antagonized me. So, if you want a cute romance with not much angst but still with an interesting storyline, then I would recommend this book.

Summary: (231 pages)

Most people called it a cult. But for twenty years, Josh and Caleb called it home.

On the Compound, there is no television. No fast food. Just long hours of farm work and prayer on a dusty Wyoming ranch, and nights in a crowded bunkhouse. The boys of the Compound are kept far from the sinners’ world.

But Joshua doesn’t need any help from TV or porn to sin. His whole life, he’s wanted his best friend, Caleb. By day they work side by side. Only when Josh closes his eyes at night can they be together in the way he’s always craved.

Yet it can never be. And his survival depends on keeping his terrible desires secret.

Caleb has always protected Josh against the worst of the bullying at the Compound. But he has secrets of his own, and a plan to get away — until it all backfires, and Josh finds himself homeless in a world that doesn’t want him.

Luckily, there is someone who does. But can Caleb find him in time? And will they find a place of safety, where he can admit to Josh how he really feels?

Review:

I really wasn't in the mood for a religious book, so I was very sceptic in the first 7% or so, but I was really surprised. What I read was really good and though religion plays a significant role, it isn't overwhelming.

The book starts out at the compound, where the cult members, also Josh and Caleb, live. Polygamy is the norm and men receive several wives when they are in their twenties. Before that age, they have to work. Because of the several wives policy though, there are too many men. So some of them are tossed out and left to fend for themselves. That’s a significant problem for them, because just the children of the first wives receive birth certificates and the tossed out men aren’t the children of the people that stand high in the hierarchy.

Joshua and Caleb’s story continues when Josh is tossed out at the age of 19 and Caleb follows him, because he loved Joshua for years. But Josh never realized it before and because of his fear of corrupting Caleb (because the morals of the church teach that lying with a man is a sin), he never made a move on his feelings for Caleb. Caleb is a lot less concerned by these morals, because he realized that no one is hurt by not following them.

That’s most likely a consequence of his much more carefree life than Joshua’s. Due to being born to the first wife of an important family, he was able to leave the compound regularly, owns a birth certificate and a drivers license. But he still tries to help Joshua whenever he can.

Joshua is a lot more insecure. He sees himself as weak and a burden for Caleb. But while reading the book, you realize how caring he is and that his opinions about himself were just a result of the behavior of the other members of the cult.

Joshua and Caleb find an ally in Maggie (another runaway) and her husband, where they have a place to stay. But even then, their lives aren’t easy, they have to overcome many problems. On  one hand, money, but on the other hand, feeling as if they are useless, unimportant or a burden.

“In Front of God and Everyone” is a story of love and acceptance, of overcoming prejudice, pain, problems and of finding happiness. But also of overcoming dumb decisions and unnecessary self-sacrifices … It made me smile, it made me cry, it made me angry, it made me feel happy and it made me feel relieved. It’s a really great book and I would recommend it to everyone who likes an interesting storyline, wonderful characters and heartbreaking emotions. Well, like I said, everyone.

"Beauty and the Bookworm" by Nick Pageant

"Beauty and the Bookworm" by Nick Pageant

Title: "Beauty and the Bookworm"
Author: Nick Pageant
Publisher: Pageantry Books
Page Count: 107

Synopsis:

Mason Leery is a bookworm and he thinks he might just be able to get through life simply by reading about it instead of living it.

Until he meets Shane Beaumont. Shane is the opposite of Mason in every way, he's beautiful, athletic, and lives his life to the fullest.

Sparks fly when the polar opposites come together, but it will be up to the bookworm to shut down his e-reader and go after the beauty if he wants to love someone outside the pages of a book.

Rating: 4 stars

Review:

This was a very cute story about a bookworm, who learns that books cannot give you everything and that true love can only be found outside of books.

Mason is a librarian and likes to spend every free minute reading. He lives together with his lesbian biker grandmother (I really liked her by the way, even though she was a bit intimidating...), because his parents acted very cold after he came out to them. His best friend is Twyla, who is in most points almost his opposite (outgoing etc. ..., but she was interesting).

Shane is an athlete, he loves sport and works part-time as a personal trainer and part-time as a massage therapist. Although Mason doesn't realise it in the beginning (and just pays attention to Shanes body and butt - he was tempted, though so don't judge), but Shane is really kind and caring.

It's really cute how they both try to impress the other because they want the other to have a good opinion of them. Although completely told from Mason's POV, you got a good feeling for every other character, especially Shane. All in all, the book was incredibly funny. Already the Prologue had me reeling with laugher and that was repeated several more times (because Mason's comments and thoughts were just great).

So, I would definitely recommend this book to everyone who wants a sweet romance with steamy sex and also a happy ending for every character. I'll also definitly check out the sequel.

"Spanked By My Roommate, The Stud" by D.J. Heart

"Spanked By My Roommate, The Stud" by D.J. Heart

Title: Spanked by my Roommate, The Stud
Author: D.J. Heart
Page Count: 54
Buy Link:

Synopsis:

Chris, while no longer terrified of the muscular athlete that is his roommate, is nonetheless horrified when the handsome stud walks in on him watching a spanking video on his computer... of two guys.

Fearing the worst, Chris hopes Brandon isn't too freaked out. But he's in for a pleasant surprise...

This story features a studly football player with a thing for his roommate, light domination and muscle worship, and a cute young college student exploring his fetish for bare bottomed spankings (first with a handsome DILF he meets online, and then later with his strapping stud of a roommate).

All characters portrayed are eighteen or above.

Rating: 3 stars

Review:

This is a cute story about a boy who is fascinated with being spanked, Chris, the man who introduces him to it, John and the football jock Chris starts dating after being caught watching a gay spanking video.

The story is based on a good idea and I really liked the writing style. I soon got caught up in the story because I really liked some of the characters and was left yearning for more at the end.

So why did I only give this a three star rating? I had two major problems with the story:

1. It seemed much more like a romance between John and Chris than between Brandon and Chris. Because of this, I was, even though I expected it, disappointed over the course of the book. (And I really didn't like Brandon that much ...)

2. The end seemed forced and abrupt and not much like an end at all. Maybe the author lost interest in the story?

But I would still recommend this if you like spankings and aren't too disappointed about a somehow unfinished story.

"Shine Forever" by Megan Derr

"Shine Forever" by Megan Derr

Title: Shine Forever

Author: Megan Derr
Publisher: Less Than Three Press
Page Count: 147

Synopsis:

Dai gave up everything when he ran away with his cousin, traded a life of wealth, power, and security to create their band and live the way they want. The one thing he refuses to do is hide; he's worked way too hard, and given up way too much, to pretend to be something he's not.

Cooper never anticipated he would trade rodeo fame for country music stardom. But the secret he had to keep for his own safety is now a secret he has to keep to protect his band. The one thing he can never do is make his sexuality public; he's sacrificed far too much to risk it all by airing personal matters.

But when a chance meeting turns into a passionate night that neither can forget, a tenuous relationship neither wants to let go, someone is going to have to break the rules...

Rating: 4.5 stars

My Review:

"Shine Forever" is the story of two musicians, Dai and Cooper. Dai is the lead vocalist of the band "Forever and a Dai" and wears colourful hair colours, lipstick and panties. But his behavior is not at all over the top, he just doesn't care about etiquettes like "it's for women". He loves books but can also spend hours haggling with Jet about their songtexts.

Cooper is the fiddler of the country band "Shine the moon", which he started as a temporary replacement after he got injured riding bulls (rodeo). He is in the closet because he doesn't want to damage his band's career, but even his band mates (except Henry) do not know about his sexuality.

When the two bands meet, Dai and Cooper are immediately attracted to each other and spend the night together. But it does not stay at that and while getting to know each other better, they start a relationship.

This book isn't without complications for their relationship (mostly because Cooper is still in the closet), it is not good all the time, but overall, it was a very sweet story. The emotions of the characters were realistic and displayed wonderfully, you were sucked in and you could understand and comprehend their actions and thoughts. Although there were many sex scenes, they always fit in the situation and the story was not cut too short. The side characters are also very interesting and lovable, especially Jason and Jet and they are one part of what makes this novel so sweet.

I would definitely recommend this for everybody who likes a sweet and very well written romance with music stars and a good balance between an interesting storyline and passionate encounters.
